The Product

Authentic heritage era moquette now available by the metre for upholstery and handicraft projects large and small.  Comes as a custom cut piece directly from the roll, your chosen size in length and 1.27 metres in width. All our moquettes have been faithfully and accurately recreated from clean, non-faded samples of original fabric and archive documentation, and are manufactured using authentic techniques.

Our moquettes are primarily made for use in the restoration of rolling stock at the nation's heritage steam railways, and as such this cloth is finished by hand to comply with all UK Railway Safety, Durability and Flammability requirements.  It is therefore an extremely hard-wearing material with great stain-resistance properties.  This cloth is the real deal and we guarantee you will not be disappointed.

The Pattern - Horse Chestnut Leaf

First introduced in 1951, this pattern is one of the earliest of the 'Festival of Britain' group of designs, commissioned for the new range of British Railways Standard coaches (later known as the Mark 1 Fleet). A mock-up of two compartments, one first class and one third class, was constructed and displayed at the Festival Exhibition site on the South Bank near Waterloo Station. These mock-ups, one of which features Horse Chestnut Leaf, and the other Boomerang, still exist in the National Railway Museum collection to this day.

Featuring a bold blue background offset with a vibrant yellow leaf motif, this pattern has an almost regal feel and has been used in the restoration of many 1st class saloons and dining cars the length of the British Isles.
