The Product
Authentic heritage era moquette now available by the metre for upholstery and handicraft projects large and small. Comes as a custom cut piece directly from the roll, your chosen size in length and 1.27 metres in width. All our moquettes have been faithfully and accurately recreated from clean, non-faded samples of original fabric and archive documentation, and are manufactured using authentic techniques.
Our moquettes are primarily made for use in the restoration of rolling stock at the nation's heritage steam railways, and as such this cloth is finished by hand to comply with all UK Railway Safety, Durability and Flammability requirements. It is therefore an extremely hard-wearing material with great stain-resistance properties. This cloth is the real deal and we guarantee you will not be disappointed.
The Pattern - Bournemouth Blue
Another very recognisable pattern, Bournemouth Blue first came to life in 1967 when the line to Southampton and Bournemouth was electrified and a fleet of existing coaches was rebuilt to provide the new service. The coaches were modernised internally, with extensive use of Formica panelling and a new blue and green fabric pattern for the upholstery.
This popular design was very quickly adopted for the (also new) Mark 2 locomotive hauled coaches which were being built at the time, and went on to last as a standard fitment through the life of British Rail, only being superseded by the new designs which accompanied Sectorisation in the late eighties and early nineties.
