The Product

Authentic heritage era moquette now available by the metre for upholstery and handicraft projects large and small.  Comes as a custom cut piece directly from the roll, your chosen size in length and 1.27 metres in width. All our moquettes have been faithfully and accurately recreated from clean, non-faded samples of original fabric and archive documentation, and are manufactured using authentic techniques.

Our moquettes are primarily made for use in the restoration of rolling stock at the nation's heritage steam railways, and as such this cloth is finished by hand to comply with all UK Railway Safety, Durability and Flammability requirements.  It is therefore an extremely hard-wearing material with great stain-resistance properties.  This cloth is the real deal and we guarantee you will not be disappointed.

The Pattern - Charcoal Check

A workhorse of a design with a long history, Charcoal Check first saw use in 1967 when it appeared in the brand new Mk. 2 coaches being introduced by British Rail at the time. This pattern underwent several subtle alterations over the years and we offer its last incarnation in which the light grey bands are slightly more prominent than in its first.

For many years after it ceased to be specified for passenger use, Charcoal Check became the standard design for upholstering the seats in locomotives and multiple unit cabs, and is still used for that purpose to this day. It is a firm favourite with ex-drivers and is enjoying a rennaisance as the cloth of choice for driver's seats in the heritage road transport sector.

Delivery

All by-the-metre orders are cut to order and shipped using a tracked 48hr courier. Small orders are sent boxed whilst larger orders are sent on a roll. We take our environmental impact seriously and try to reduce packaging materials wherever possible. We only use plastic packaging materials where absolutely necessary and we are constantly looking for new ways to make all transactions as carbon-light as possible.
